How long does laminectomy take to work for spondylolisthesis?

Spondylolisthesis means one vertebra has shifted in relation to another. If the shift narrows space for a nerve, decompression may be considered to address leg pain, tingling, or weakness. A laminectomy does not by itself describe every part of the operation; some people also need a procedure to support or stabilise the spine. That difference affects activity restrictions and the pace of rehabilitation. Nerves can remain sensitive after pressure is relieved, so symptoms do not always change together.

Follow the exact movement and lifting limits given by your surgeon, particularly if stabilisation was performed as well. Walk in short, comfortable intervals and change position regularly rather than staying in bed for long periods. Take prescribed medicines safely, protect the incision, and attend follow-up visits. Rehabilitation may focus on posture, hip and leg strength, safe transfers, and gradually returning to useful activities.

Report new or worsening leg weakness, increasing numbness, loss of balance, or a new bladder or bowel problem promptly. Seek urgent care for sudden severe back or leg pain with neurological change, breathing difficulty, or heavy wound drainage. Fever, increasing wound redness, or fluid leaking from the incision also warrants medical advice.
