How long does joint aspiration take to work for Baker's cyst?

A Baker’s cyst is a fluid-filled swelling behind the knee, often connected with irritation inside the joint. Removing fluid may ease tightness and improve bending, but aspiration does not necessarily treat the reason fluid formed.

The knee may feel tender at the needle site immediately afterwards. Improvement is judged by pressure, bending, walking, and swelling rather than by the lump alone. A returning lump needs assessment of the underlying knee condition.

Follow the clinician’s instructions about dressing care, activity, and keeping the area clean. Avoid strenuous loading until you are told it is appropriate, then return to movement gradually. Note whether swelling, warmth, pain, or calf symptoms change.
