Diminished ovarian reserve means the ovaries may produce fewer eggs in response to stimulation. It does not by itself provide a precise timetable or predict the outcome of a cycle. Ultrasound findings, hormone results, age, sperm factors and previous treatment can all influence decisions.

The team may monitor follicles closely and decide whether an embryo can be transferred in the same cycle or should be frozen for a later transfer. If few eggs are collected, the clinician may discuss whether another retrieval or a different strategy is sensible.

Ask for a written medication calendar and attend each scan or blood test. Tell the team about side effects, medicines and any change in your health. After retrieval or transfer, follow instructions for prescribed support and use the scheduled test date as your guide.

Contact the fertility unit for severe pain, heavy bleeding, fever, faintness or significant abdominal swelling after stimulation or retrieval. Get urgent help if breathing becomes difficult or pain is sudden and severe. Call promptly if a medicine dose is missed or cannot be kept down.
