How long does IUI take to work for male factor infertility?

A semen sample is prepared so the more mobile sperm can be placed directly into the uterus. This shortens the distance sperm must travel, but fertilisation and implantation still need to occur naturally. The insemination itself takes only a short time; the treatment cycle includes ovulation tracking, possible medication, ultrasound checks and a pregnancy test after the waiting period.

Male factor infertility can involve a low sperm count, reduced movement or other semen findings. IUI may be considered when enough usable sperm can be prepared, but the expected plan depends on both partners' assessments.

Attend monitoring appointments and follow the timing instructions for any ovulation medicine. Give the sample exactly when the clinic requests it, because preparation and insemination are coordinated with ovulation. Continue prescribed medicines unless the fertility team changes them, and use the clinic's date for testing rather than testing very early.

Contact the clinic if severe pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, fainting, fever or marked abdominal swelling occurs after treatment. Seek urgent help for trouble breathing or sudden severe illness. If the test is negative or bleeding starts, tell the fertility team so they can review the cycle and semen findings before discussing another attempt.
