How long does a steroid injection take to work for granuloma annulare?

Granuloma annulare often forms ring-shaped groups of firm bumps. An intralesional injection places anti-inflammatory medicine into a selected lesion, so the treated ring may flatten or fade gradually rather than immediately. Colour can linger after the raised texture improves. Some lesions respond incompletely or recur, and widespread or changing rashes may need confirmation of the diagnosis before treatment is repeated. The injection treats the selected area; it is not a promise that other rings will change at the same pace.

Observe the treated area without scratching or repeatedly rubbing it. Use moisturiser or other products only as advised, and attend the planned review so the clinician can compare texture, colour, and borders. Take a clear photograph before treatment and during follow-up if requested. Tell the clinician about new rings, rapid spread, pain, scale, or a change that does not resemble your usual rash.

Seek review if lesions spread quickly, become painful, ulcerate, bleed, or develop pus or marked warmth. A fever or feeling significantly unwell warrants prompt medical advice. Ask the treating clinician to assess any persistent indentation, skin thinning, or colour change after injection, particularly if it is becoming more noticeable.
