How long does steroid injection take to work for skin sarcoidosis?

An intralesional steroid is placed into selected skin lesions to reduce local inflammation. A lesion may become less raised, red, firm, itchy, or tender before its colour fully changes. Some marks can remain visible after the active inflammation has settled.

The number, depth, and location of lesions affect how treatment is planned. Skin sarcoidosis can also involve areas beyond the treated spots, so your clinician may ask about eye, chest, joint, or general symptoms when deciding whether local treatment is enough.

Follow the site-care instructions, avoid rubbing or picking the treated area, and note changes in colour, texture, tenderness, and size. Bring a list of medicines and tell the clinician about any history of steroid reactions or changes elsewhere on the skin.

Do not judge the result solely by the first few days. Keep the planned review so the clinician can assess the lesion and decide whether observation, another session, or a different treatment is suitable.

Contact your treating clinician if a lesion becomes increasingly painful, hot, swollen, crusted, or draining, or if the injection site develops marked thinning or colour change. Seek urgent care for breathing difficulty, severe facial swelling, or new vision changes.

Ask what change is expected in your particular lesion, when it will be reviewed, and which symptoms outside the treated skin should prompt assessment by another specialist.
