How long does hysteroscopic polypectomy take to work for cervical polyps?

A hysteroscope lets the clinician see the cervical canal and remove the polyp, often by cutting it at its attachment. Symptoms caused by that polyp, such as contact bleeding or bleeding between periods, may improve after removal, but the cervix still needs time to recover. Tissue is commonly sent for laboratory examination, and the result may be discussed after the procedure rather than immediately. Removing one polyp does not rule out another source of bleeding, so ongoing symptoms deserve review.

Use pads if advised while spotting continues, follow the clinic’s instructions about bathing and vaginal activity, and take recommended pain relief. Avoid strenuous activity until you feel well or your clinician says it is suitable. Keep the follow-up appointment to discuss healing and the tissue result. Ask when you can return to work, exercise, sex, and tampon use, especially if the procedure involved additional treatment.

Seek medical advice for heavy or increasing bleeding, severe cramps that do not settle with recommended medicine, fever, dizziness, fainting, or foul-smelling discharge. Emergency care is appropriate for collapse, severe weakness, or breathing difficulty. A little spotting can be expected, but worsening symptoms should not be ignored.

Ask where the polyp was attached, whether it was completely removed, when the tissue result will be available, how recurrence or persistent bleeding will be assessed, and which activities are restricted during healing.
