How long does hysterectomy take to work for adenomyosis?

Adenomyosis is tissue from the uterine lining growing into the muscular wall of the uterus. Removing the uterus removes the area containing adenomyosis, but swelling and tenderness after surgery can temporarily feel like ongoing symptoms. The operation does not automatically remove endometriosis elsewhere in the pelvis, and removing or keeping the ovaries is a separate decision with different hormonal effects. The route of surgery, overall health, and whether other procedures are needed all influence recovery.

Use prescribed pain relief, walk gently as advised, and keep the wound or vaginal area clean according to your discharge instructions. Avoid lifting, driving, penetrative sex, and strenuous exercise until your surgical team says they are safe. Attend the postoperative review even if bleeding and cramps have settled. Ask when you can return to work and how to manage constipation, fatigue, or a temporary light discharge.

Contact the surgical team for fever, increasing pain, foul-smelling discharge, wound redness, difficulty passing urine, or bleeding that becomes heavier. Seek urgent help for severe abdominal pain, faintness, chest pain, trouble breathing, or a swollen painful leg. These can signal complications needing prompt assessment.

Ask which hysterectomy route is planned, whether the ovaries and cervix will remain, how adenomyosis will be confirmed, and what symptoms may take longest to settle. Discuss fertility, hormonal changes, pelvic pain from other causes, and your individual return-to-activity plan.
