The test uses breath samples collected before and after you take a test substance. H. pylori can change that substance in the stomach, creating a measurable difference in the later sample. The result helps identify active infection; it is not a general check for every cause of indigestion, nausea or abdominal discomfort. Your clinician interprets it with your symptoms and medical history.

Read the appointment instructions carefully and ask whether you need to avoid food or drink.
