How long does a GP consultation take to work for Long COVID?

The GP may discuss fatigue, breathlessness, pain, sleep, concentration, mood and how symptoms affect work or daily activities. They may review your medical history, examine you, check observations, and arrange tests or referrals when appropriate. Long COVID symptoms can vary from person to person, so the plan is usually adjusted as your pattern becomes clearer.

Write down your main symptoms, when they appear, activities that worsen them and any recovery pattern. Bring a list of medicines and relevant previous results. Until you have advice, balance activity with rest, avoid pushing through a marked flare, and return gradually to tasks that you can manage.

Seek urgent help for severe breathing difficulty, chest pain, fainting, new confusion, or sudden weakness. Contact your GP sooner if symptoms are worsening, you cannot manage essential activities, or new symptoms appear rather than waiting for a routine follow-up.

Ask which symptoms need testing, how to pace activity safely, what improvement to look for, when the plan will be reviewed, and whether another service could help with a particular symptom.
