How long does a GP consultation take to work for labyrinthitis?

The GP may ask whether vertigo began suddenly, whether hearing changed, and whether you have ringing in the ear, nausea, headache, fever, or recent infection. They may check eye movements, balance, walking, and hearing, then decide whether further assessment is needed. The visit can identify the safest next step, but it cannot instantly restore balance.

Dizziness can make ordinary movement unsafe. Recovery may be uneven, and some people need review if balance remains impaired or hearing symptoms continue.

Move slowly, sit or lie down when spinning starts, and keep pathways clear. Avoid driving, heights, swimming alone, and machinery while balance or vision is unreliable. Tell the GP about medicines, recent infections, falls, hearing changes, and whether head movement triggers symptoms.

Call emergency services for sudden facial weakness, arm or leg weakness, trouble speaking, new severe headache, fainting, chest pain, or inability to walk. Seek prompt medical review for sudden hearing loss, repeated vomiting, severe worsening vertigo, or a new neurological symptom.

Ask whether the findings fit labyrinthitis or another balance disorder, whether hearing or specialist assessment is needed, which activities are safe, and what changes should prompt urgent help. Ask when a follow-up review would be useful.
