How long does child health consultation take to work for bronchiolitis?

The clinician listens to your child’s breathing, checks work of breathing, hydration, alertness and feeding, and considers age and medical history. Bronchiolitis is commonly managed with supportive care rather than a medicine that makes the infection disappear immediately. The consultation gives you practical guidance about feeds, fluids, nasal congestion and observation at home. A review may be suggested if symptoms change or feeding becomes harder.

Keep your child upright when awake and offer smaller, more frequent feeds if breathing makes feeding tiring. Clear the nose gently if congestion interferes with feeding. Watch wet nappies, breathing effort, colour and responsiveness, and follow the clinician’s plan. Do not give cough or cold remedies to a young child unless a clinician specifically recommends them.
