An X-ray may show patterns that prompt further testing, but similar changes can have other causes. A clear image does not exclude every form of tuberculosis. Your clinician may discuss a sputum sample or another test based on your symptoms and exposure history.

Cover your cough, improve ventilation where possible, and share relevant travel, household, workplace, or previous tuberculosis history.
