How long does chemotherapy take to work for neuroblastoma?

Neuroblastoma is a cancer of developing nerve cells and can behave differently depending on where it is found and how it has spread. Chemotherapy may be part of a wider plan that also includes surgery, radiotherapy, stem-cell treatment, or other medicines. Doctors may assess the primary tumour, lymph nodes, bones, bone marrow, and symptoms. Imaging and laboratory tests are timed around treatment cycles because early changes may not show the complete effect. The child’s age, tumour features, risk group, treatment purpose, and general health all shape the schedule.

Keep a record of medicines, temperature readings, eating and drinking, bowel movements, pain, and activity. Give prescribed medicines as directed and ask before using any non-prescribed product. Tell the paediatric oncology team about reduced drinking, repeated vomiting, constipation, mouth sores, pain, or a change in movement. Ask what the next scan or test is intended to measure and how results will guide the next phase.

Follow the oncology service’s urgent instructions for fever or chills, difficulty breathing, unusual sleepiness, seizure, uncontrolled bleeding, repeated vomiting, severe pain, or sudden weakness or trouble walking. Children receiving chemotherapy can become unwell quickly, and these symptoms require prompt clinical advice rather than waiting for the next appointment.
