How long does chemotherapy take to work for diffuse large B-cell lymphoma?

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma can change quickly, so clinicians follow your progress throughout the planned course. A shrinking swelling, easing pressure or improved energy can be encouraging, but symptoms alone cannot show how many lymphoma cells remain. Blood tests may show how your body is coping, while imaging helps measure lymph-node or organ changes. The timing of a scan depends on your treatment plan and whether chemotherapy is being used before another treatment, after a procedure or for disease that has returned.

Attend each appointment even when you feel well, because review visits help the team decide whether to continue, adjust or pause treatment. Keep a simple record of fever, new swelling, breathing changes, bowel symptoms and medicines. Take supportive medicines exactly as directed and tell the oncology team about supplements or other prescriptions before starting them. Do not judge the outcome from one difficult day or one side effect; response and tolerability are assessed together.

Contact your cancer team promptly for a fever or chills, because infection can become serious when treatment lowers infection-fighting cells. Seek emergency help for severe breathing difficulty, chest pain, confusion, fainting or sudden weakness. Call urgently for uncontrolled vomiting, inability to drink, heavy bleeding or a rapidly worsening swelling.
