A fibroadenoma is a non-cancerous breast lump made from glandular and connective tissue. Ultrasound can help show whether a lump has an appearance that fits this pattern, including its margins, shape, and position. It does not dissolve or shrink the lump. A clinician may recommend monitoring when the examination and images are reassuring, while a changing or unusual finding may need further assessment. The report is only one part of the diagnosis.

Record the lump's location and any changes in size, tenderness, or mobility before your visit. Tell the clinician about pregnancy, breastfeeding, hormone medicines, and previous breast imaging. Once the result is reviewed, follow the recommended plan and keep any follow-up appointment. Do not assume that a familiar lump needs no review if it changes. Ask whether you should monitor it at home and which specific changes should be reported.

Arrange prompt review if a lump grows quickly, becomes fixed, causes persistent focal pain, or is accompanied by skin dimpling, nipple inversion, or unusual discharge.
