How long does breast lump excision take to work for fibroadenoma?

Excision removes the lump through an incision, so the procedure addresses the fibroadenoma itself rather than waiting for medicine to change it. The breast may feel sore, firm, swollen, or numb around the incision at first. A small ridge or lumpiness can reflect healing tissue and does not by itself show that the fibroadenoma remains. The removed tissue is usually examined so the surgical team can confirm the diagnosis. Scar appearance and breast contour continue to settle as healing progresses.

Keep the incision clean and follow instructions about dressings, bathing, pain relief, and activity. Wear the recommended support garment if provided. Avoid heavy lifting or vigorous arm movement until your surgeon says it is suitable, and attend the wound or pathology review. Do not massage the incision unless instructed. If the breast shape or scar concerns you after healing, discuss it at follow-up rather than judging the result while swelling is present.

Contact the surgical team for increasing redness, warmth, wound separation, pus-like drainage, fever, or pain that is becoming harder to control. Seek urgent care for rapid breast enlargement, heavy bleeding through the dressing, faintness, or breathing difficulty. A new lump later should be assessed, even though the excised fibroadenoma was benign.
