How long does eyelid surgery take to work for droopy eyelids?

Blepharoplasty removes or reshapes excess eyelid tissue that can create hooded or heavy-looking lids. Bruising, puffiness, tightness, and mild asymmetry can temporarily hide the change. The visible benefit may appear gradually as these effects ease. If droopy upper-lid skin was narrowing your field of view, functional improvement should be assessed separately from appearance and healing.

Follow the surgeon’s instructions for cleansing, prescribed ointment, cold compresses, sleeping with your head raised, and returning to activity. Avoid rubbing the eyes and strenuous exercise until cleared. Keep review appointments so the incision and eyelid position can be checked. Protect healing skin from sunlight and do not apply unapproved products near the wound.

Seek prompt medical advice for worsening pain, rapidly increasing swelling, bleeding that does not settle with the advised pressure, fever, spreading redness, pus, vision loss, or new difficulty moving the eye. Sudden severe swelling around one eye is urgent. Contact the operating team rather than waiting for a routine review if symptoms are escalating.
