How long does biologic therapy take to work for pyoderma gangrenosum?

Early progress can include less severe pain, slower edge expansion, reduced drainage, and healthier tissue developing at the ulcer base. The wound may remain open after the inflammatory activity settles. Because pyoderma gangrenosum can worsen after trauma, dressing changes and any procedure should follow the plan from your wound and dermatology team.

Use the biologic and any companion medicine exactly as prescribed. Keep dressings clean and change them with the technique provided; do not scrub, debride, or apply unapproved products. Note pain, wound size, drainage, and fever, and bring those observations to reviews so the response can be judged over time.

Contact your care team promptly if an ulcer enlarges quickly, pain escalates, drainage changes, or the surrounding skin becomes increasingly red or swollen. Seek urgent care for fever, faintness, confusion, heavy bleeding, or severe illness, as infection or another complication may need immediate attention.

Ask what wound changes indicate control, how often the ulcer should be measured, which dressing is appropriate, whether a procedure could irritate the area, and what symptoms should trigger same-day advice.
