Treatment can reduce the inflammation affecting the nail matrix or nail bed before the damaged nail looks normal. A new, smoother section may appear near the base while older pitting, ridges, discolouration, or lifting moves outward with growth. Fingernails and toenails do not all grow at the same pace, so progress is best judged with occasional photographs from the same angle.

Use biologic therapy on the schedule prescribed and attend monitoring visits. Keep nails trimmed, avoid biting and picking, and protect hands from repeated wet work or irritants with suitable gloves. Do not force a lifted nail back down. Tell your clinician about tenderness, swelling, crusting, or debris under a nail because infection or another nail condition can look similar.

Arrange medical advice for sudden severe nail pain, pus, spreading redness, or a rapidly changing dark streak. Contact the prescribing team for fever or other signs of infection while receiving biologic therapy. If the nail pattern is unchanged after the agreed review period, ask for reassessment rather than stopping treatment on your own.
