How long does benzoyl peroxide treatment take to work for acne?

Benzoyl peroxide helps reduce acne-causing bacteria and inflammation in the treated follicles. New spots may still appear early in the course while existing lesions settle. Dryness, redness, peeling, or stinging can happen, and these effects do not prove that treatment is working. Improvement should be judged by fewer new inflamed spots and calmer skin over time.
