A sore or rash can take time to settle, and some people have no symptoms to track. Feeling better does not prove that the infection has cleared. Syphilis can affect different stages of health, so the medicine and follow-up plan depend on when infection began and whether complications are present. Blood tests help the clinician compare your response over time.

Attend every treatment appointment and follow the prescribed plan exactly. Avoid sexual contact until your clinician confirms it is appropriate, because treatment does not protect against a new infection and partners may need assessment. Tell the clinic about pregnancy, allergies, medicines, and any change in symptoms. A temporary fever, chills, headache, or muscle aches soon after treatment can occur; ask the treating team how to manage it.

Seek urgent medical help for vision changes, eye pain, hearing changes, severe headache, weakness, confusion, or difficulty walking.
