Gestational thrombocytopenia means a blood test has found fewer platelets during pregnancy. Platelets help blood clot, so antenatal care may repeat the blood count, review medicines and medical history, and check for bleeding or signs of another condition. A mild, stable result may only need observation, while a falling count needs closer assessment. There may be no symptom to feel, and the result matters for decisions about delivery, anaesthesia, and procedures.

Attend repeat blood tests and bring a list of medicines, including non-prescription products. Tell the team about easy bruising, nosebleeds, gum bleeding, unusually heavy vaginal bleeding, or blood in urine or stool. Avoid starting aspirin, anti-inflammatory medicine, or herbal products unless your pregnancy clinician has advised it.

Seek urgent medical advice for bleeding that does not stop, extensive new bruising, severe headache, confusion, weakness, or vision changes. Emergency help is needed for heavy bleeding, fainting, a seizure, or severe abdominal pain. Do not wait for a scheduled blood test when these symptoms occur.
