Anti-Müllerian hormone is produced by cells in ovarian follicles. A blood result can add information about the remaining follicle pool and may help a fertility clinician plan further assessment or ovarian stimulation. It cannot show egg quality by itself, predict exactly when menopause will occur or explain every cause of difficulty conceiving. Interpretation depends on age, menstrual history, other hormone tests, ultrasound findings and the reason for testing.

Ask when your result will be available and request an explanation in the context of your fertility goals. Keep a record of the result and any related tests. A clinician may discuss antral follicle count, ovulation, fallopian tubes, semen analysis or treatment options. The AMH test itself does not increase fertility, so do not delay a recommended fertility assessment while waiting for it to change.
