This is a scarring form of hair loss: inflammation can injure follicles so that regrowth becomes difficult. A dermatologist may examine the frontal hairline, temples and eyebrows, compare photographs over time, and sometimes arrange a scalp biopsy. Treatment is individualised according to activity, symptoms, other illnesses and pregnancy plans. Options can include steroid lotion or injections into active areas, other anti-inflammatory tablets or creams, and medicines such as finasteride in selected patients.

Arrange a dermatology assessment if the hairline or eyebrows are changing. Keep photographs in consistent lighting, avoid tight hairstyles and reduce irritating hair products. Do not start prescription hair-loss medicine without checking suitability. Once inflammation is controlled, a specialist can discuss cosmetic camouflage or hair restoration; these approaches do not remove the underlying inflammation.

Seek prompt review if recession is progressing, the scalp is painful or burning, redness or scaling is spreading, or eyebrow loss is accelerating. New facial papules, eyelash changes or symptoms around the ears also deserve assessment because they can signal more active disease.
