How effective is vitamin D analogue treatment for psoriasis?

Psoriasis causes skin cells to build up too quickly, creating inflamed, scaly plaques. A vitamin D analogue helps regulate this overactive growth and can calm local inflammation. The response is gradual and varies with plaque thickness, body location, extent of disease, and how regularly treatment is used. These medicines may be used alone or combined with another topical treatment. Irritation can occur, particularly in skin folds or on the face, where a different plan may be safer.

Apply the prescribed amount to plaques while avoiding eyes, lips, and unaffected skin. Wash hands afterwards unless the hands are the treated area, and use moisturiser to ease scaling and dryness.
