Baby acne is not always fungal
Baby acne, also called neonatal cephalic pustulosis, can cause small red bumps or pustules on an infant's face. It may resemble a yeast-related rash, heat rash, eczema or infection, but appearance alone cannot confirm the cause. Antifungal medicine treats fungi and will not help every facial eruption; an infant's age and sensitive skin also affect product choice.
Gentle care for an infant rash
Use only products recommended for the baby's age and the affected area. Clean gently with lukewarm water or a mild cleanser, pat dry and avoid squeezing bumps, fragranced products and adult acne medicines. Do not borrow an antifungal product or apply it near the eyes, mouth or broken skin without specific medical instructions.
