How effective is topical antifungal treatment for cradle cap?

Cradle cap, also called infantile seborrheic dermatitis, often causes greasy scale on the scalp. It is usually mild and may respond to regular washing and softening of scale. An antifungal is considered when inflammation or scale persists, or when a healthcare professional thinks yeast is contributing. Improvement is judged by less redness, scaling and irritation rather than by the scalp changing immediately.
