How effective is targeted therapy for myelofibrosis?

Myelofibrosis affects blood-forming marrow and can cause tiredness, night sweats, weight loss, bone discomfort and an enlarged spleen. Targeted medicines may block abnormal signalling involved in the disease. The aim may be to relieve symptoms, improve daily function, reduce spleen-related pressure or support blood counts. They may control the condition without eliminating it. The team weighs symptom change against blood-test results, spleen findings and treatment effects when judging benefit.

Record changes in energy, appetite, sleep, sweating, abdominal fullness and pain so your team can compare them over time. Attend blood-count and clinical reviews because treatment can affect red cells, white cells or platelets. Tell the team about bleeding, infections, dizziness, new bruising and every medicine or supplement you use. Do not stop a prescribed tablet suddenly unless your clinician gives you a safe plan.

Contact your care team promptly for fever, chills, unusual bruising, bleeding, worsening breathlessness, severe dizziness, increasing abdominal pain or rapidly worsening fullness. Seek urgent care for heavy bleeding, fainting, severe chest pain, sudden confusion or difficulty breathing. These symptoms may reflect low blood counts, infection, spleen complications or another urgent problem.
