How effective is stereotactic radiosurgery for meningioma?

Radiosurgery delivers focused radiation to the meningioma without an open operation. The usual goal is to stop or slow further growth; the mass may still be seen on MRI after treatment. A response is judged over time, and temporary swelling can make scans or symptoms change before the longer-term effect is clear.

The decision depends on whether the meningioma is growing, how close it is to nerves or blood vessels, its size and shape, and whether it has caused symptoms. Observation or surgery may be more appropriate in some situations.

Take your MRI history and symptom notes to the consultation. Mention headaches, seizures, vision changes, hearing changes, weakness or altered sensation. Ask what the treatment is intended to achieve, how nearby brain structures will be protected, and how follow-up scans will be interpreted.
