How effective is prescription antiperspirant for underarm sweating?

These products work mainly by temporarily blocking sweat ducts at the skin surface. They may reduce wetness enough to improve clothing comfort and daily activities, but they do not remove the underlying tendency to sweat. Benefits often need maintenance, and sweating can return when use stops.

Stinging, redness, dryness, or itching can occur, especially on irritated or recently shaved skin. A clinician can help distinguish expected irritation from contact dermatitis and suggest a different strength or schedule when needed.

Apply only as directed, usually to completely dry, intact underarm skin. Applying at bedtime may allow the product to remain in contact with the skin while sweating is lower; follow the prescription instructions if they differ.
