Your team may compare chest imaging with earlier scans, review breathing symptoms, and check how you are recovering. The timing depends on what the nodule represented, how it was treated, and your overall health. A scan can show a stable area, scar tissue, inflammation, or a change that needs closer assessment. Surveillance is a process of comparing findings over time, not a single test that gives every answer.

Keep each appointment and bring a list of new symptoms, medicines, and questions. Tell the team if you smoke, have stopped smoking, or are exposed to smoke at home or work. Ask which scan is planned, when results will be discussed, and what happens if an image is unclear. Do not wait for the next routine visit to report a persistent change in breathing or chest symptoms.

Seek urgent medical help for severe breathlessness, chest pain that is new or intense, coughing up more than a small streak of blood, blue lips, or confusion. Contact your oncology or respiratory team promptly for a new cough that does not settle, worsening breathlessness, unexplained weight loss, fever, or increasing chest discomfort.
