How effective is oral antifungal treatment for ringworm?

Ringworm is a contagious fungal infection of the skin, not a worm. It may form an expanding scaly patch with a more active edge, though appearance varies by skin tone and body site. Oral medicine can treat infection across a larger area or a rash that has not responded to suitable topical care.

A clinician may check the diagnosis because eczema, contact dermatitis, and other rashes can resemble ringworm. Itch and scale may ease before colour changes fade. Scratching can spread fungus to nearby skin or other people.

Use the prescribed medicine for the full schedule and disclose other medicines, supplements, liver conditions, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Keep lesions covered when practical, wash hands after touching them, and avoid sharing towels, clothing, brushes, or sports equipment.
