Hand eczema can involve dry cracking, redness, scaling, blisters, or thickened skin. Narrowband UVB exposes the affected skin to a carefully selected part of ultraviolet light, which can reduce inflammatory activity over time. The hands may be difficult to treat because their thicker skin can respond differently from thinner areas, and protective habits still matter. Phototherapy is generally considered alongside moisturisers, trigger avoidance, and prescribed medicines rather than as a substitute for identifying irritants such as detergents, solvents, gloves, or frequent wet work.
