How effective is microneedling for acne scars?

Fine needles create controlled micro-injuries that prompt the skin to repair itself. This can make depressed acne scars and uneven texture look less noticeable over a course of treatments. It does not erase every scar, and raised scars or active acne may need a different approach. The final appearance depends on scar depth, skin type, healing, and whether new breakouts continue.

Have a qualified clinician assess whether the acne is active and whether the scars are suitable for microneedling. Follow instructions about retinoids, exfoliants, sun exposure, and infection prevention before and after a session. Expect temporary redness, tenderness, or mild swelling. Use gentle products, avoid picking, and protect treated skin from sunlight while it settles. A series may be recommended, with time between sessions for healing.

Contact the clinic if pain, swelling, warmth, pus, blistering, or redness is increasing instead of settling, or if you develop fever. Seek prompt assessment for a spreading rash or an unexpected dark or light patch that persists.
