Why results vary

Demodex mites can live on normal skin without causing symptoms. When they are associated with redness, roughness, follicle bumps, or eye-area irritation, the problem may involve the face, eyelashes, or another sensitive site rather than the scalp. Shampoo may therefore have limited reach or may be unsuitable for some areas.

A clinician needs to distinguish mite-associated inflammation from rosacea, acne, folliculitis, eczema, or infection. Treating the wrong cause can prolong irritation and make the skin barrier more fragile.

Use it carefully

Use only a product intended for the affected area and follow its directions. Keep shampoo away from the eyes and rinse well. Do not scrub vigorously, pick bumps, or apply household insect products to skin.
