How effective is hysteroscopic polypectomy for endometrial polyps?

The clinician passes a camera through the cervix into the womb and removes the polyp from its attachment. Direct vision helps target the growth while limiting unnecessary removal of surrounding lining. The tissue is examined to identify its nature, which is especially relevant when bleeding is unusual or persistent.

Bleeding linked to the polyp may improve after removal. Fertility may also be discussed when a polyp could interfere with the uterine cavity, but conception depends on ovulation, sperm, the tubes, age, and other factors. A normal-looking cavity afterward does not rule out those issues.

Before treatment, ask how the polyp was located, what anaesthesia is planned, and when you can resume usual activities. Confirm how the pathology result will be communicated. Keep a record of bleeding after the procedure and attend review if symptoms continue, return, or change. Additional assessment may be appropriate if the scan or symptoms suggest another uterine problem.

Seek advice for increasing pain, fever, chills, heavy bleeding, dizziness, or foul-smelling discharge after hysteroscopy. Emergency care is appropriate for severe pain, collapse, or breathing difficulty.
