How effective is GP consultation for Meniere's Disease?

Meniere's disease is associated with episodes of spinning vertigo, fluctuating hearing loss, ringing in the ear and a feeling of fullness or pressure. Similar symptoms can come from inner-ear conditions, migraine, medicine effects or neurological problems, so the pattern matters. Your GP may ask how long attacks last, whether one ear is affected, what happens to hearing during an episode, and whether there is vomiting, headache or a neurological change. They may examine your ears and balance, review medicines and arrange hearing tests or referral. A GP visit may not settle the diagnosis immediately, but it provides a safe route to the right assessment.

Keep a brief diary of vertigo attacks, hearing changes, tinnitus, pressure, possible triggers and recovery. During an attack, sit or lie somewhere safe and avoid driving, heights or machinery. Bring your medicines and mention migraine history, recent infections and previous ear problems. Follow the agreed plan, which may include symptom treatment, hearing support, lifestyle adjustments or specialist review. Return if attacks change, become more frequent or interfere with walking, work or daily care.

Get emergency help for sudden facial drooping, one-sided weakness or numbness, trouble speaking, a severe new headache, collapse or inability to walk safely. Sudden hearing loss in one ear needs urgent medical assessment. Seek prompt care for persistent vomiting, severe dehydration, a new severe imbalance or vertigo after a head injury.
