How effective is GP consultation for dengue fever?

Dengue is assessed from symptoms, mosquito exposure or travel, examination and sometimes blood tests. A GP checks hydration, blood pressure and warning signs such as abdominal pain, bleeding, unusual sleepiness or breathing difficulty. The visit helps separate illness suitable for monitoring from illness needing hospital review. Care focuses on fluids, rest, safe fever relief and watching for change.

Tell the GP when fever began, where you travelled, what medicines you take and whether you can drink and pass urine normally. Avoid aspirin or ibuprofen unless a clinician says they are suitable, because bleeding can be a concern. Record worsening pain, vomiting, bleeding, dizziness or reduced urination, and arrange follow-up if advised.

Seek urgent care for severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding, blood in vomit or stool, marked weakness, confusion, fainting, trouble breathing or inability to keep fluids down. Warning signs can appear as fever settles, so feeling cooler does not by itself mean the illness is over.

Ask which symptoms require emergency care, whether repeat checks are needed, which fever medicines are suitable, how much to drink and when you should be reviewed.
