How effective is custom orthotics for hammer toe?

A hammer toe bends at one or more toe joints and may rub against the shoe or press into the sole. An insert can redistribute load across the foot and reduce pressure beneath sensitive areas. It may be more helpful when the toe still moves and the main problem is friction or forefoot overload. A fixed deformity, a painful joint, or a corn may need additional care.
