Molluscum contagiosum, sometimes called water warts, causes small raised bumps that can spread through skin contact or scratching. Cryotherapy uses controlled cold to freeze a selected bump. The area may become red, swollen, blistered, or crusted while it heals. The treatment targets visible lesions; it does not instantly prevent other bumps from appearing because nearby or previously unnoticed lesions may still be present. A clinician may choose observation instead, especially when bumps are mild or treatment would be uncomfortable.
