How effective is cortisone injection for shoulder impingement?

Shoulder impingement symptoms can arise when tendons and the bursa become painful during lifting, especially with repeated or poorly tolerated overhead activity. An injection may calm the irritated space and make sleep, dressing, or exercise easier. It does not widen the space permanently or change the shoulder’s mechanics. The response varies, and pain can return if the provoking workload continues. Assessment is useful because similar symptoms can come from rotator cuff tendinitis, a tear, stiffness, or the neck.

Use the lower-pain period to follow a graded programme for shoulder-blade control, rotator cuff strength, and comfortable range of motion. Temporarily reduce the specific lifting or reaching pattern that triggers symptoms, then rebuild it gradually.
