How effective is cortisone injection for coccydynia?

Coccydynia is pain around the coccyx, often felt while sitting, leaning back, or standing after sitting. A clinician places anti-inflammatory medicine near the painful area, sometimes with local anaesthetic. The injection may help when irritated tissues around the coccyx are contributing to symptoms. It does not correct every possible cause, such as an injury, prolonged pressure, or referred pain from another part of the lower back or pelvis. Improvement can make it easier to change position and begin movement work, but the response cannot be predicted from the diagnosis alone.
