How effective is chemotherapy for small cell lung cancer?

Small cell lung cancer often responds to chemotherapy because the medicines target rapidly dividing cells. Treatment may reduce the size of a chest tumour, improve cough or breathlessness caused by the cancer, and treat disease in other parts of the body. Radiation, immunotherapy, or another approach may be combined with chemotherapy depending on the stage and treatment plan.
