How effective is CAR T-cell therapy for diffuse large B-cell lymphoma?

CAR T cells are made from your own immune cells and trained to recognise a marker on lymphoma cells. Doctors assess benefit using examination, imaging and blood tests, looking for changes in lymph nodes and other affected areas. Response can be complete or partial, and some lymphomas grow again after treatment. Previous therapies, disease activity, general health and the timing of referral all influence the plan.

Ask whether CAR T-cell therapy is suitable now or whether another option should come first. Clarify the cell-collection process, temporary treatment while cells are prepared, expected monitoring, and how the team will manage low blood counts and infection risk. Plan support at home and follow the centre’s restrictions on driving and being alone after infusion.

Call the treatment centre immediately for fever, shaking chills, faintness, low blood pressure symptoms, confusion, difficulty finding words, severe headache, seizure or breathing problems.
