How effective is breast biopsy for intraductal papilloma?

An intraductal papilloma is a growth within a milk duct. It may be associated with nipple discharge or an imaging finding, but those signs can have several causes. A needle biopsy removes a sample for microscopic examination. The report may describe a papilloma and whether atypical cells or another finding are present. Because a small sample may not represent every part of a lesion, clinicians compare pathology with symptoms, examination and imaging before deciding what comes next.

Tell the breast team about blood-thinning medicines, allergies, bleeding conditions and possible pregnancy. Ask how the sample will be guided and when results are expected. After the procedure, follow wound-care advice and watch for increasing pain, redness, warmth, fever or persistent bleeding.
