How effective is biologic therapy for pemphigus vulgaris?

Pemphigus vulgaris is an autoimmune blistering disease that can affect the skin and the moist lining of the mouth or other areas. A biologic can dampen the immune process that disrupts connections between skin cells. Improvement may mean fewer new blisters, less oozing and pain, and gradual healing of existing erosions. It is not an instant repair: open areas still need protection, infection checks and time to heal.

Take or receive the medicine on the schedule set by your specialist and keep every monitoring appointment. Tell the team about fever, cough, wounds that are worsening, recent infections, vaccinations and all other medicines. Use the wound-care plan provided, avoid rubbing fragile skin, and maintain mouth care if oral erosions are present. Do not reduce steroids or stop a biologic independently; changes need a supervised plan.

Seek prompt medical advice for rapidly spreading blisters, extensive raw skin, increasing redness, pus, fever, dehydration, or painful mouth sores that make drinking difficult. Breathing or swallowing difficulty requires urgent help. A flare may need treatment adjustment, and an infection can become serious when the skin barrier is open.
