Endometritis is infection or inflammation of the lining of the womb. It may happen after childbirth, miscarriage, a procedure, or another infection. Possible features include fever, lower abdominal tenderness, feeling unwell, and abnormal or unpleasant-smelling vaginal discharge, but a clinician must assess the pattern and timing.

Treatment may begin with medicine that covers several likely bacteria, then be reviewed as your symptoms and examination findings develop. Antibiotics control infection; they do not replace treatment for a retained product, collection, or another problem if one is found.

Take each dose as directed and finish the prescribed course unless your clinician tells you to change it. Rest, drink fluids if you can, and record your temperature and symptoms so changes are easier to describe. Tell the team about allergies, breastfeeding, recent procedures, and any medicine already taken.

Keep the planned review even if you begin to feel better. If symptoms are not settling, the clinician may reassess the diagnosis, examine for a complication, or change the treatment.

Seek urgent medical care for fever with worsening pelvic pain, heavy or foul-smelling bleeding, repeated vomiting, dizziness, fainting, confusion, or feeling markedly unwell after birth or a procedure. Emergency care is needed for collapse, severe pain, breathing difficulty, or rapidly worsening symptoms.
