Gestational hypertension is high blood pressure that develops during pregnancy. These visits do not remove the condition, but they help the maternity team recognise worsening disease or signs of pre-eclampsia. The timing of reviews depends on your readings, pregnancy stage, symptoms, and other health factors.

Keep every maternity appointment and take prescribed medicine exactly as directed. Record home blood-pressure readings if your clinician has asked you to, using the recommended technique. Tell the team about headache, visual changes, upper abdominal pain, sudden swelling, reduced fetal movement, or breathlessness. Do not change medication, restrict food, or begin supplements without advice. Ask how often your blood pressure and baby’s growth should be checked, and what birth plan would apply if readings rise.

Contact your maternity service urgently for a severe or persistent headache, flashing lights or blurred vision, pain beneath the ribs, repeated vomiting, sudden swelling of the face or hands, difficulty breathing, vaginal bleeding, or noticeably reduced fetal movement. A very high home reading should be handled using the action plan given by your clinician; if you cannot reach the service, seek urgent assessment.
