How common is wrist pain in distal radius fracture?

The distal radius is the end of the forearm bone closest to the wrist. A break there can cause pain, tenderness, swelling, bruising, and difficulty moving the wrist or fingers. The wrist may look different, but a visible change is not required. Pain can increase when the hand is used, and gripping may be difficult. Because a fracture can have small or subtle changes, symptoms alone cannot show whether the bone is broken or how it is aligned.

Stop activities that load the wrist and keep the hand supported in a comfortable position while arranging medical assessment. Remove rings before swelling increases, if this can be done without forcing them. Do not try to straighten a wrist that looks deformed or repeatedly test its movement. Imaging may be needed to assess the bone. Follow the treatment plan carefully, including any instructions about support, movement, and follow-up.

Seek urgent assessment after a fall or blow that causes wrist pain, swelling, bruising, or reduced movement. Get emergency help if fingers become numb, pale, blue, cold, or difficult to move, or if the wrist has an obvious deformity or an open wound. Pain that increases quickly in a supported wrist also needs prompt attention.
